Today we took Gus to meet a new friend! My aunt knows an older, retired couple who already have a shih tzu and are looking for another one. They had 2 but one passed away in the spring.
They love their dogs, have a beautiful, well-manicured home with a huge, fenced in yard.
The other dog is a male and I was a little concerned about them liking each other because male shih tzu's like to dominate. Gus barked a few times but really seemed at ease and relaxed. He even played with some of their dog toys! This couple travels a lot and takes their dogs with them and they really seem to spoil the dogs.
If I could have imagined the perfect home for Gus, this would be it!
Next Monday they are going to take Gus for the whole day and see how he does without us around and with the other dog. Then they will know for sure if they want to take him.
They are going on vacation for a week so they would get him permanently after that.
It would then be on a trial basis to see if it worked out and if not, they would give him back.
We are praying that Gus would adjust and that they would want him. I could at least check up on him periodically. I would feel completely comfortable sending him there!
We shall see!

That great Becky! I can't imagine the relief you must feel finding a good home for Gus. Hopefully this arrangement will work out best for all involved. :-)
