Possible Home for Gus:)...

Today we took Gus to meet a new friend! My aunt knows an older, retired couple who already have a shih tzu and are looking for another one. They had 2 but one passed away in the spring.
They love their dogs, have a beautiful, well-manicured home with a huge, fenced in yard.
The other dog is a male and I was a little concerned about them liking each other because male shih tzu's like to dominate. Gus barked a few times but really seemed at ease and relaxed. He even played with some of their dog toys! This couple travels a lot and takes their dogs with them and they really seem to spoil the dogs.
If I could have imagined the perfect home for Gus, this would be it!

Next Monday they are going to take Gus for the whole day and see how he does without us around and with the other dog. Then they will know for sure if they want to take him.
They are going on vacation for a week so they would get him permanently after that.
It would then be on a trial basis to see if it worked out and if not, they would give him back.

We are praying that Gus would adjust and that they would want him. I could at least check up on him periodically. I would feel completely comfortable sending him there!
We shall see!

Gussy

So most everyone knows we have a dog. His name is Gus and we got him about 6 years ago. I begged Shawn for him because we were having trouble getting pregnant and I wanted something little to hold and love!
He has been a great dog for us, is well-trained, doesn't shed, and is small enough to pick up.
When we had Adrianna he had a little bit of a hard time adjusting and now is tolerable of her.
He was more tolerable of Eliza! Anyway, since I have been pregnant this time, he is driving me CRAZY! My parents have graciously taken him for about the last week and a half just to give me a break and to see if I would really miss him if we got rid of him.

Here are my reasons for wanting to find another home for him:
1. He barks at EVERYTHING! Even if someone accidentally knocks a table he will bark.
2. He is quite a distraction when I am teaching piano lessons because he won't stop barking
3. He follows me around EVERYWHERE. I can't even go to the bathroom in peace (which I can't with kids anyway) but he sits by the door and whines.
4. The stress level in our house is higher because I am either trying to prevent him from barking or stop him from barking.
5. He costs money..
6. He gets a little snippy with the girls and growls on occasion when they come near him.
7. I'm afraid this baby's first words will be "No gus!"

Here is what I have noticed since he has been on vacation:
1. Our house is more peaceful
2. I only have 2 kids to take care of instead of 3 as of right now.
3. My piano students are able to concentrate better
4. I don't have to listen to barking and whining (from the dog at least)
5. Did I mention our house is calmer?:)

HERE IS THE DILEMMA:
Adrianna LOVES Gus. She keeps asking where he is, when he will be back.
I mentioned that we might find another home for him and she pleaded with me not to. She keeps saying she wants her dog back.
So...do we get rid of him for all the above reasons and for the over-all sanity of our house?
OR...do we keep him so I don't traumatize Adrianna?

It would be very sad to get rid of him because he has been a part of our family for a while. He really is a great dog if you have the patience and time to walk him and love on him. I just don't have the time or energy right now and it's not going to get any better! He is very well-trained and is a very nice companion. I think he would do great in a home with older kids or no kids.
I don't want to take him to the Humane Society and I want to be a little picky on where he goes. I just don't know where to send him.
Any takers?:)

So...what do you think? Please give me your opinion on what you think we should do!

A Productive Day

I woke up this morning to a little 2 year old covered in poo AND a bed covered in poo. We had baths, laundry started, breakfast, and dressed all before 9 am! Eliza was sick all day and very clingy and whiny. Poor thing.. her bum looks like a piece of raw meat and she just screams every time we change her diaper. I think she went at least 6 times today.
She didn't have much of an appetite and was very cuddly which I really like!

Adrianna was such a big helper. She kept offering to get her a drink, rub her back, read her a book, and get her silky all day long.
Nap time began at 12:30 and Eliza slept for about 2 1/2 hours.
Meanwhile Adrianna and I did a Bible lesson about the seeds that were dropped on 4 different kinds of soil. It was especially intringing to Adrianna because it involved M&M's, her favorite candy! I'll post about that later! We also made a rain stick (which needs to be fixed by daddy!), practiced our letters, and read Narnia.
She had a big accomplishment today! She wrote her entire name ALL BY HERSELF! This is huge because she has shown no interest in writing letters since we began learning them a year and a half ago! We learned how to write Big A, little a, and D the other day. Then today we did r, i, and n. I wish I could frame it. It made my heart proud!

I also got started on my Christmas cookies! One kind is done and ready to be frozen! I know, I know, I'm anal....BUT.... I know I will not have the time or energy to do many when the baby comes so we are trying to get as many done before the baby comes as possible. I think we are going to try and make 20 different kinds this year!

So, all that to say...I can hardly move, and I am going to sit and put my feet up for the rest of the evening!

Some funny quotes and sayings from Adrianna:

"I'm going to twirl around like a banderina!" (ballerina)

At dinner lately, she has been asking who made which food. She will ask if daddy made it, if I made it, or we both did. The other night she was asking who made things and it ended up that I made the main dish and the veggie and Shawn made the salad. Then she asked "How come mommy made 2 things and you only made one daddy?"

I asked her if she would like pb&j for lunch or turkey & cheese. She said "Let me think a minute here mom".

"I'm going to just organize your Tupperware mom." (wonder where she gets that from..:))

We were talking the other evening about consequences because she had just lost her movie watching privledge. She has had trouble telling the truth and that was the only thing I could think of to sink in to her. She absolutely loves movies and to take them away was a HUGE tragedy! She has a chart of character qualities we are trying to teach her so I added telling the truth to it. She has to earn 5 stickers to get her movies back. (by being truthful)
So anyway, we were talking about the fact that when we sin and choose to do bad things, we have to have a consequence. I told her that mommy and daddy have consequences for our actions and then we went through the list of all the people she knows that get consequences for their actions also. I told her that Jesus wants us to choose the right thing and have the right heart attitude, but He can help us do that. She looked at me and said "You mean Jesus wants to kill me?". Okay, she was very serious and in her mind I think she was thinking of how Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that we didn't have to die because He did. It is amazing how drastic she gets!

I say to her that she is getting a time-out. She will look at me and say " You mean you don't want me to eat dinner?" It is no where near dinner time!
Or she'll say " You mean you don't want me to see daddy?"
Or " You mean you don't want me to go to school any more?"
Oscar here we come....:)

Our 1st field trip to Robin's Nuts:)

Adrianna was so excited about her field trip today. I didn't even have to wake her up and the first thing she said was "Field trip, field trip"!
She remembered we were going to an apple farm and on the way she said "Are we at Robin's Nuts yet"? Meaning Robinette's! It was good to have a laugh from her since we are having such a hard time with her attitude!

We stayed as a group and had a tour of the orchard. The lady that led us around was so great with the kids and really explained things on their level. Each kid got to put an apple in this small version of the cider press so they could see how cider was made.
It chopped up all the apples first, then she pressed down on the apples to make the cider. Not rocket science but interesting none the less!

After she pressed all the cider she showed the kids how the apples looked like a cake. They all got to touch it and it was pretty cool. They put out these cakes for the deer and animals to eat.

I had all these grandiose expectations that Adrianna would just LOVE being with her mommy since we were doing this together. Well...she wanted to stay by her teacher's or her friends almost the whole time. She came by me a few times but it's funny that usually kids WANT to stay by their mommy's when they are in a new situation. Not my girl! She is off with everyone else. I guess I just have to get used to that right?!:)

This apple tree is 70 years old! It is still producing apples!

Everyone got to pick an apple and they are going to do something with them on Thursday at school. She is such a cheese ball!

We also got to ride on their apple wagon. It wasn't too bumpy and we got to see a glimpse of the whole orchard. They had a pretend beekeeper out in the midst of the trees and they have an actual beekeeper that orders about 60,000 bees every year to help pollinate the apple blossoms. If they didn't have the bees, there would be no apples!

Doesn't this make you want to make some apple crisp and some pies!

We all got to have donuts and cider in a cute little house afterwards. This is Adrianna's new little friend from school, Julia.
Adrianna is so loving and wants so badly to meet new friends. Everywhere we go she is always meeting someone! Sometimes the little girls she meets aren't very nice and they don't want to play with her. I don't want to see her little heart get broken but I know she will have to experience the rejection of friends in her life. I just wish she didn't have to! She can be so sweet sometimes!

We had a great time and hopefully she will remember her mommy going with her!
She also said the other day that she changed her mind and didn't want mommy to go with her, she wanted daddy to go. Okay....so it begins...:)

Finally an update!

We have finally settled into our routine for the Fall.(somewhat):)

Shawn is very busy with marching band and it has been quite an adjustment this year. Some weeks he is gone every night! He has many meetings, football games, rehearsals and competitions all the way through the end of October. It's kind of a love/hate relationship! He absolutely loves teaching but hates the time he has to be away. We are still adjusting to the schedule and the girls and me are better at it some days but not so good on others. I really appreciate how Shawn really tries to get home when he can and make it a priority. Some days I feel so bad because he works so hard all day and then has to come and still be a dad. He is an amazing dad and I know only God can give grace like that!

Adrianna is loving preschool 2 days a week. I know she would love to go 3 days but I'm glad we don't have to run around back and forth to church 3 days a week. She gets so excited whenever it is Monday night or Wednesday night because she gets to go to school the next day. She has her first field trip to Robinette's tomorrow!
We are still struggling with her attitude and the arguing. One day at a time and maybe I'll write more about that later!

Eliza is such a doll! I really enjoy my girls separately..but they are a challenge together! She is loving Elmo and Abby Cadabby as well as doing whatever Adrianna does. She wakes up so happy and is smiling and laughing most of the day. She loves to sing and read books and is just fun to be around! Her 2nd birthday is 2 weeks away and she knows she is having a "dabby dabby" cake!
(Abby Cadabby)
She is also "officially" in her twin bed for bedtime AND naps! She is doing great and stays in the bed!

I am really enjoying the Beth Moore Bible study every other Tuesday. We are doing " A Woman's Heart, God's Dwelling Place". We have only had 1 meeting so far but I know it is going to change my life once again! I am teaching piano lessons on Tuesday's and Shawn and I try and faithfully have a date night once a week. Boy can we tell if we don't! It really helps us connect expecially with our busy schedule.
I'm very excited because I actually got Eliza's month to month picture/baby book done in time for her birthday and our next baby! I am working on Christmas 2006 and then starting 2007. Will I ever get caught up....??:) Probably not since I won't be able to do any scrapbooking for a while once the baby comes!

This has been the LOOONGEST pregnancy ever! I know it is getting close...too close sometimes considering the nursery is not painted and Adrianna's bed still isn't here! He moves around a lot but is not very active if that makes sense. It is more just gently rolling and I'm starting to be able to tell where body parts are! Maybe he will be relaxed like his dad! It would be nice considering I have 2 very active girls!

The other day I decided to attempt to make cookies with both girls......It actually went better than I thought and they were both very helpful! The best part was licking the beaters!

Almost 2!

Eliza has been doing so good in her bed! She has only come out a handful of times but seems to like it. She still loves her silky which we are limiting to bedtime and naptime. Even if we do take it away she finds something else silky to hold on to and suck her thumb!
Like my curtains, Adrianna's pajamas, or Daddy's tie.
I found her a toddler travel bed and the top sleeping bag is silky. She was on that thing all day long saying "My bed, silky, lay on it".

The bed we ordered in May is still not here so her mattress is on the floor right now. And half of the bed is in the dining room. Grrrr..... I don't do well with disorganization!

A few weeks ago I put some undies on Eliza and her toush looked so cute!
It lasted a day and she hasn't shown any interest lately. That is totally fine with me because I can't bend over very well anyway!
I think she peed through all 3 pairs I put on her!

1st Day of School! 1st Day of School!

My sweet little girl has officially started school today! She was so excited when I put her to bed last night that when I woke her up this morning it didn't take that long to get ready! Usually it takes her about an hour to wake up and be functional. Today it only took 40 minutes!
She kept saying the whole way there, "I can't wait to go to school, are we there yet?!". She did so good when I dropped her off. Hardly any clingyness!

All I have to send with her in her backpack right now is a change of clothes, but it sure looks cute!

Yes, I'm cheesy to take a picture of her name on the sign, but it was so fun to see it there! She is in the 4 year old Dinosaur room. Her teachers are Miss Bev and Miss Nancy. I can already tell they are going to be great!
On the way home she kept saying "I can't wait to go back tomorrow!". Well, it will be Thursday, but I'm glad she had a great time.

Here is what she remembered about her day:
1. She met a friend named Allie who had a princess barrette in her hair.
It was only one friend though.
2. She had a banana and graham crackers for snack. That will make her armpits strong...I asked her if her teacher told her that and she said she thought of it. That's what I have always wanted...strong armpits...:)
3. She said the "Rain, rain" song and some others but she couldn't remember.

And so it begins! I thought I wasn't going to cry because both girls were already fighting at 7:45am this morning so I was a little frustrated when we left, but when I walked her in her room I couldn't help tearing up a little. She got her nametag and proudly walked over to show me!
And she actually missed Eliza and wanted to keep hugging her after we picked her up. Eliza even asked where na na was! So maybe the separation will be great for them!

Stuff...

Adrianna starts preschool tomorrow and she seems very excited! We have her clothes and back pack all set out as well as her new shoes. I will definitely post pictures of her tomorrow! I HAVE to have her first day of school picture!

Today I think we had 4 time out's and a spanking. So much for trying to focus on the positive!
Shawn and I made a new behavior chart with just a few things we want to work on with her.
Like having a sharing heart, speaking kind & loving words, thinking of others first, and verse memorization. No sooner had we discussed what it means to show that Jesus is in our hearts she was fighting with Eliza. Our verse this week is Matthew 5:9, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God". Okay....not so peaceful today. Satan was really attacking us! I kept asking myself if I was looking hard enough for something positive and there just didn't seem to be anything! So at dinner Eliza wanted more cantalope and Adrianna offered to help her put some in her bowl. I jumped right on that one! She got a sticker for her chart for having a sharing heart!
This was after she was jumping on Eliza's bed, giving her dogfood with a VERY mischievious look on her face, and getting out of rest time to open Eliza's door! (She was still sleeping..grrrr)
Tomorrow is a new day right....:(

I am in the 3rd trimester finally! Only about 10 weeks to go! It really is not very far away but on some days it seems like forever! I have been going to the doctor every 2 weeks for about a month and half now and I know it will just get more frequent.

Shawn is busy with Band, meetings, church, and other odd jobs. He was going non-stop today at work but he still came home and helped me get dinner ready AND clean-up the mountain of dishes. He is so great! I wish I had half his energy right now!

I am praying that God will show me in a tangible way that parenting can be a joy, because right now, IT'S NOT!

Sigh......

Right now I can honestly say I am not enjoying being a mom. Our days are filled with constant intervention from fighting, selfishness, hitting, and crying. I find myself dreading the mornings because I know this all will start as soon as the girls open their eyes!
Eliza is constantly saying "No, na na" (No Adrianna) whether or not Adrianna is near her or not!
She will randomly hit Adrianna with a toy, her silky, or her hand. Then she can be the sweetest creature ever created!

Adrianna argues with EVERYTHING! Her way is better, her way HAS to be different than mommy or daddy's. She always wants one more chance after she has had like 10.
I feel like I am always quoting Scripture or some concept we want her to learn. It is so tiring.

Both girls will be playing and Eliza will leave the toy for a second and Adrianna will run over from wherever she is and take and say "She was done with it I have it first"! If I never hear the words mine or no again it will be Heaven....literally!

I am at such a loss and so frustrated because the ways we have decided to deal with things don't seem to be working. Then I get more frustrated because I can't think of anything creative to do!
Sigh.....

My girls are so sweet most of the time and especially when they are by themselves! What is a tired, pregnant mom to do?!
I am hoping that I am not the only one dealing with this or else you all are going to thing I'm crazy and my kids are horrible!
I'm sure it is just a stage.....:)
I am really looking forward to getting into more of a routine with preschool and Bible study, then maybe things won't look so bleak!

I'm off to scour "Creative Correction" for some ideas!
