This is such a great visual way to teach kids about Christ's death and resurrection.First- You put pecans in a bag and beat them. This symbolizes Jesus being beaten by the soldiers. Eliza thought is was funny and Adrianna had to tell her it wasn't because it was very sad.
Second- You put vinegar in a bowl and this symbolizes what they offered Jesus to drink when he asked for a drink while hanging on the cross.
Third- A pinch of salt to show the salty tears of Jesus' family and friends.Fourth- Egg whites show new life.
Fifth- Add some sugar to show the sweet salvation Jesus gives us by his death.
After mixing all the ingredients together you put them in mounds on a cookie sheet and put them in the oven. It has been pre-heated, but as soon as you put the cookies in, you turn the oven off. They stay in there all night and in the morning they should be hollow meringue type cookies to symbolize the empty tomb!
When we got up in the morning Adrianna asked, "Can we eat Jesus now?".
