So I think I have to re-think one of my resolutions! Adrianna and I sat down yesterday to do a little school time. I was thinking we would do it for about 10-15 minutes so we could ease back into it. So we reviewed all the letter sounds so far, (which she only remembered 2 of the 8), and then started with the letter "D". I must say, it has been fun and interesting to see how Adrianna learns. She is not really interested in letters, but we will persevere! Anyway, I showed her the letter D on a card. It had a picture of a Dinosaur. Then I read her a story where most of the words began with D. We said "dddd" for the sound. We looked around the house for things that began with D. We looked at pictures that began with D, like dog, doll, and dish. We circled things that began with D. Okay, you get the picture....
So I went back to the D card and asked her what letter it was.
She looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language! She said.."please tell me". Then said it was the letter "J"!!!!!!!!!!! She was not pulling my chain! I could hardly believe it. Needless to say, we stopped school for the day because I was just too frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!
So, I am trying to figure out creative ways to teach her because her brain and thoughts are going in so many different directions. We might not get through all the letter sounds by June, but that's okay. If anyone has any ideas for letter sounds, let me know!

Do you have the LeapFrog Fridge ABC set? That is how Anna learned her sounds- totally without my efforts to help her. That might be a fun way for her to learn and less frustrating for both of you :-)
The sounds children make are being learned everyday! Let her play play play, the time for play will soon be gone!
Ya know- I'm tending to agree with the wiser mother here ;)
Soon so soon she will be in school and learning all that good stuff - and she won't be a little girl anymore! Maybe this is easy for me to say since Jaedon pretty much taught himself all his letters and sounds ;)
We don't have the Leap Frog Magnets but we have a lap pad thing that Jaedon STILL plays with! It was fun for him to play with (in van rides!!!) and he was learning too. Don't frustrate yourself though! Our time with them while they're young is too short to spend it being frustrated!!
PS- I like your new template!! ;)
I second the LeapFrog fridge magnet thing. They are awesome! We actually used the "Word Whammer" from Leap Frog. Don't stress too much about letters. Adrianna's learning much more than you think she is. Just read, read, and read some more to her!
Hang in there!
